Over the holiday break, a large group of brothers went on the annual transition weekend to the Wheel Inn in Chattum Ontario. December 20th brothers brought dates to the first annual KDR Christmas dinner, hosted at the house. They had all the decorations and the tree, brothers each brought a dish to pass, and all enjoyed a white elephant gift exchange.
Greek Week was once again an unforgettable experience for the brothers. The events were strong with a large showing of the brotherhood at each one. Amazingly KDR won basketball over the giant NPHC team. Once again we won Air Band for the third year in a row! This year’s show was a collection of Disney Songs from Aladdin, Cinderella, Snow White, The Little Mermaid, & Beauty And The Beast. The week came to a close with KDR as the BACK-to-BACK GREEK WEEK CHAMPIONS. The fraternity was also honored with highest GPA on campus and the Chapter of Excellence for the second year in a row also. Brother Stephen Kontos also received the Brotherhood Award. Brothers, friends, and alumni celebrated the success with a joint BBQ and party with the Kappa Beta Gamma sorority at the KDR house.
The summer continued fundraising with car washes, while philanthropy was also continued with The Relay for life. The 2nd Annual KDR Family BBQ had to be postponed due to the blackout that included the entire the northwestern portion of the nation, it had to be canceled.
The National Convention was held in St. Louis August 7 – 10. Alpha came home with 8 chapter awards:
Donald C. Wolfe Award – Chapter Newsletter (3rd)
John L. Blakely Award – Philanthropic Projects (3rd)
George E. Kimball Award – Social Service (3rd)
William I. Myers Award – Chapter Scholarship, 3.4
E. Mayer Maloney – Faculty Relations (2nd)
Scholastic Achievement – Above Men’s Campus Average
Leo T. Wolford – Campus Involvement (2nd)
George E. Shaw – Public Relations (3rd)
Brother Eric Hornik also received a scholarship from the National Fraternity
On August 23rd The third annual Alumni Banquet was held at Pasquale’s in Royal Oak.
The 2003-3004 school year began with great enthusiasm from the entire brotherhood. Everyone wanted to step in and help out with rush where ever and whenever they could. There was outstanding attendance at the rush events as well with the entire brotherhood showing up to at least 2/3 of the events. Eleven bids ended up being passed out with seven exceptional men excepting their bids.
At the end of November the Alpha Gamma Chapter had their first ever visit by another chapter of the fraternity. The Eta Chapter from the University of Illinois brought 40 guys for the weekend. They were shown a good time by a night on the town in Canada the first night and then the second night there was a mixer with the women of Kappa Beta Gamma. The Eta Chapter left thanking Alpha Gamma for showing them and excellent time over the weekend and extending an invitation to come and visit them sometime the next term.
Over the Christmas break a group of brothers made the annual return to the Wheel Inn in Chattum bringing memorable experiences once again. Transition was changed though instead of being held on the trip it was changed to before hand to make sure that the incoming officers were fully prepared. Brothers and dates also returned to the fraternity house for the 2nd annual Christmas party with people bringing a dish to pass. The white elephant gift exchange was also a continued tradition with gifts of sarcasm and generosity given.
